HOW IS A DIESEL TRANSMISSION DIFFERENT TO GASOLINE?
Diesel engines run much more efficiently than gas engines, generating high torque at very low speeds and requiring a more robust transmission. A diesel transmission’s components (gears, dogs, cogs) are larger, bulkier, and more rugged than those in a gas machine so they can handle the massive amount of torque produced. The fear shifts in diesel transmissions run optimally at lower speeds than their gas counterparts and usually have a torque boost range starting at about 1200 RPM while a gas tranny’s boost isn’t available until 3000 RPMs. A Diesel transmission is considered heavy duty, while gas models are usually classified as light duty.
